i find it amazing and interesting that after all these years we still have regional dialect and accents. the world has gradually been getting smaller as communications improve at a phenomonal rate yet we are still using words and phrases whics someone 50 miles away doesnt understand.

i remember going to a festival and buying an egg stottie from a caterer from the north east - i had to ask what it was! (egg sandwhich)

i have a mate from newcastle who i catch every third word and have to make up the rest.

i really dislike my accent (scunthorpe, north lincolnshire) it is really dull and makes me sound really stupid (i cringe if i hear myself on an answer machine.

the only localisms i can think of at the moment are "mardy" (in an bad mood "you are a mardy cow tonight" and one i really hate and refuse to ever use - referring to a roundabout as a "circle"

Doric is alive and well in the God's Country (North-East of Scotland), more so amongst the teuchters than the toonsers though.

My favourite phrase, and one I try and use whenever possible is a "foggy bummer", some people call them bumblebees!

Beautiful accent, that. Unmistakable. Cornwall, isn't?

And that, my friend, is how you channel Johnny English without emoticons, or faux xml mark-up.

Cockney ?

true lincs, with a hint of devon, somerset and scotland. travelled far and lived wide i have ;)

having the pleasure of intergrating with many southerners and northerners, i find lincs very normal.no twang, as such. you can measure an accent by the amount of times its used in comedy, not neccissarily in a bad way, but lets be honest, lincs is very clear and bold, in the dark villages tho, theres very disturbing thrases.........but then again i lived in plymouth and never "got" some cornish thrases.

its a funny old world, if we all spoke proper, tid be boring, like everyone driving vectras lol, listening to shinia twain (?spell)

I'm a born and bred Geordie and the amount of folk Who I get saying they love my Newcastle accent is crazy, strangely they can't understand me much, yet while here (lake district) I can understand everything these Cumbrians say!

I was going to use you as an example but didn't dare call you a geordie in case you just sounded like one but actually hail from 0.75 metres outside the designated zone
