Are you looking for amber wall tyres or just anything cheap in 26"?

Amber wall would be nice, but I want something new or nearly new. Part worn 30 year old tyres don't appeal to me.

I use the Charge Splash Back Tire, perfect amber wall color and you can even Ghetto tubless them to make your retro ride, ride like a modern bike.

I have old tires but...I like my face too much to ride 30 year old rubber or handlebars!

They look really good but I can't find them anywhere. I didn't know Charge made tyres.

Hi All,

Just wondering what tyres people use on their retro bikes? I can't afford NOS tyres and they seem pretty rare now anyway.

Just as an example

£180!?

I don't want to spend more than £30....

Cheers,

Jim

Have a read of this one Jim. It's as near as someone is offering a 'new' Amberwall.

(My pic on page 3 shows what happens when you ride 30yr old tyres like a modern)

No offence meant here, but decent/ new Amberwall tyres are one of those things on Retrobike where you'd think the prices wouldn't be crazy, but as consumables, they are very sort after for those doing period builds. Most of the decent NOS stuff is in the hands of collectors, most likely not to be used because of its rarity/ value..... and if they do part with it, expect to pay big.

Off the shelf, buying new as riding tyres - there's not much choice even in black wall versions. It's mainly 27.5" or 29er tyres now.
I went into my local bike shop to buy some 26" rim tape for a set of wheels I was building..... "Why do you want that? - no-ones riding 26" wheels anymore" ..... Probably explains why it's hard to source decent 26"tyres? ..... Well the sort you'd want to ride anyway. Road/commuter semi/slicks don't seem a problem though :?

Up the budget and go for a pair or Terrance's T1's - without guys doing this, The Amberwall will be purely for show.

Just my opinion
