Picked this up last night, happened to see it on marketplace just as to was listed, the guy said that between this and the lawnmowers he listed his phone nearly melted! What did he expect, he asked 100 British pounds for it!
The interwebs has lead me to believe it's a 2004 bike, can anyone confirm or denie? Not really up on road bikes or MTB post 95 tbh. Only my 3rd road bike since my mid teens, 1 is stuck in NZ, the other a 92 trek 2300 carbon.
Fitted with £90 of tyres, most of the components seem to be in working order, with exception of the chain, rear brake cable and head set, chain is now bathing in wd40, the cable and head set are solid! The guy I bought it from said it had been his father-in-law's and that he'd given it to him but he's never ridden it. Must have been sitting for some time.
It's had some parts changed, most noticeable the cassette for something mahoosive and a later deore mech to deal with it. Tiagra levers, seeing as everything else is 6500 ultegra can't see these would have been different...... the bars and stem combo with a 1" to 1 1/8" adapter and pretty sure the seat pin isn't from the factory (happy enough with a ti flite 😁).
Pointers to factory bars etc would be helpful, I'd like to return it to factory spec eventually, but atm, a good clean, new brake cable, strip and service the head set, pedals and chain, it'll be a rider.
Happy with what is most definitely "a bit of a result"!
Next explain to the Mrs why I now have 17 bicycles......... N+1.....

Its a 1997 model I believe. See this one; https://rob.bikerevuk.com/mybikes/oclv.html

Post 1999 they came with threadless steerers and Ahead style stems. Yours has a quill adaptor to allow it to run the ahead clamp on stem.

RB has the 1997 Trek catalogue archived here; https://www.retrobike.co.uk/archive/1997-trek-catalogue.75/
You can see your bike on page 26. It would look great with a pair of Spinergys!
It does look like the 5500 I have, but someone went to the trouble of swapping all the Dura ace for ultegra?
I agree spinergy would look the nuts, bit would cost more than the rest of the bike, if I could find some.....
Suppose I can start a 90's Dura ace collection 🙄
