Re:

If you are going to ride the bike properly get a new one, if you are just tinkering and might ride round the village with the kids a few times over the summer, you might try and keep that going with a clean up.

A new cartridge B.B. is pretty cheap anyway.

Axel length determined by the chainset you are using, so keep that in mind if you are replacing, Sheldons database has all the likely sizes you’ll need.

Re: Bottom Bracket Removal?

bin it.

measure the shell (will be 73 or 6:cool: and the axle length to the ends of the tapers (I.E. not the threaded parts) and get a cartridge.

Everything you ever wanted to know: https://www.sheldonbrown.com/bbsize.html

Once you know the bottom bracket shell width, it will be either 68 or 73mm, but most likely 68mm, and the spindle length, buy the correct size Shimano UN55: https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/shi ... -prod71369. These are pretty much "fit and forget" and generally last for ages.

You might want to shop around though as prices seem to be a bit all over the place at the moment and some shops are charging different prices for different sizes, for some wierd reason.

You will also need a tool to fit it, like this: https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/x-t ... -prod14914
