Tiniest fragment of decal. Please help ID?

Reynolds666

Retro Newbie
I've recently picked up a project. I'm looking to find out the frame builder. I have the following clues.

* tiniest fragment of decal
* frame no. 1227
* lugs (not sure what type does anyone know?)
* originally stove enamelled sky blue
* remnant of blue diamond on down tube
* championship banding on down tube
* picked up in Hamilton, Scotland

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you

Re: more pics

Thanks for your reply. I'd just registered and had trouble getting just one pic to upload from the I pad. Here are some more...

Nothing is immediately jumping out at me, looks 50s, I sure someone may be able identify from the lugs... I might suggest its a Sun, but there are no holes for the head badge, I'm sure I have seen a model with similar cut lugs. looks like its been repainted at some point in its life.

Earlier end of the 50s if it's 50s. I think it might be late 40s, going on the low down bend on the forks and the roadster style headset. The lugs look quite thick which would suggest a lower quality bike from the era, what I mean by that is it was probably a factory made bike rather than a hand-built lightweight with fancy hand-cut lugs. Nice looking frame though - well worth saving.

Sun, I think, would have had braced stays at the bottom bracket.

Re:

Thank you for your help regarding the red racer. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw your post Jonny 69 of your lovely Parkes frame as I sold you the frame on eBay. Then to see you commented on my post was such a coincidence
