Been using something similar I cocked together. Issue is, getting the cup straight (I do one at a time)
Was thinking the stepped washer arrangement might make the initial cup pull (more?) evenly balanced.

Currently I get the cup started then whack it in with a rubber mallet :-/

I agree, the stepped washers are immensely helpful. I use a socket set socket which is a lovely cylinder. If you are doing a fair few headsets then a dedicated tool is undoubtedly less faff. If one a year then maybe not worth the cash.

Yep -- here's mine. Stepped washers would be better but this works if you take it slow and check everything's lined up every few turns.

I made my own, cost a couple of quid. Having a lathe is handy though.
