Those cheap headset cup tools on Ebay...

I can not see any reason why they would not do the job fine.

I had one a few years ago. From eBay I got mine. Didn't work for me as the lever at the top was to short for my weak arms.Or perhaps the lever is too short?

I have a cheap (sub £20) amazon one, that looks reasonably well made. As long as you take time to ensure the cups are in the frame completely square, and don't try to put them both in at the same time then I can't see the advantage of anything more expensive. Sure there will be marginal gains, but it's just a press at the end of the day.

Same as the "headset whacking out tool" I got at the same time. I put a few layers of tape over the splayed ends in case of sharp edges on the headset cup (which wouldn't be seen anyway) and it was fine at being whacked with a big hammer and depositing the cup halfway across the garage. Memo, pop a loosely done-up zip tie around it next time...

I have an even cheaper set - a piece of studding, some washers and a couple of spanners.
Been using something similar I cocked together. Issue is, getting the cup straight (I do one at a time)
Was thinking the stepped washer arrangement might make the initial cup pull (more?) evenly balanced.

Currently I get the cup started then whack it in with a rubber mallet :-/

other than it being a standard threat rather than a square or acme thread it's absolutely fine and pretty bomb proof.
