I thought they were french, the founder is anyway. All made in Taichung, Taiwan.

Looks like the founder is indeed French, though has lived in Taiwan for the last 13+ years according to a quick google. Not sure what this makes the company in terms of origin though.

Not me your honour, I bought them like it without seeing pics. They aren't all bad, as they work well and are now more matt than anything else, but I see what you are saying. I could be up for a deal if you take the thumbies
