This isn't going to work is it...BB mount F/mech question...

So...I've got a 73mm shelled frame I'm trying to put a 73 x 118 BB into when it's got a BB mounted front mech, E type is it called....?

Anyway, of course this now makes the BB shell effectively something like 76mm wide, and the NDS cup is going WAY into the shell. Any simple fixes, or go back to plan C which was single ring it on the front. Full sus frame by the way, not that I should imagine that makes much difference

Re:

Shimano did make a specific e-type bottom bracket for these mechs.
Drive side cup is shaped to allow fitting of front mech.
Somebody somewhere must still have one.

Re:

Interesting....thanks for quick response. Unfortunately it's also an Octalink or whatever you call it BB and cranks I'm trying to fit, not square taper, so that may make it even more tricky to find the right BB.

Actually, now I think about it, I think I might single ring it anyway, lighter, and put all the 9 speed kit on something else. Or flog it

Full Suss? Tell us more :)

All will be revealed at some point this weekend, to be fair at the mo it's not going EXACTLY to the plan I had in my mind when I started out this morning.....

Build thread soon though hopefully! BB problem solved by doing something totally different to what I intended and robbing another project, so that will probably not get built now

Re:

Bike-discount.de appear to have one listed in 68 x 118mm. Might be worth checking them for a 73mm. About £13 including shipping.

TBH octalink coincided with the big push for etype front mechs, most (all?) of the octalinks I've had over the years were etypes....... They just came with an extra spacer for non etype installation.

Re:

When I said Octalink I meant Hollowtech II

Not very good at all this new fangled stuff. Solved problem in end by doing what I wanted in first place and sticking to a single ring, my normal thing anyway as it's lighter and there aren't many hills around here....

HTII is e-type enabled.

YOu remove the seoncd of the 2.5mm spacers on the drive side, which for 73mm shell would mean no spacers.

Though I think you do mean Octalink (like a square taper but splined also call HollowTech)
HT2 has the axle on the crank arm so none of your first post would make sense.

With Octalink/Square taper you need to buy the BB-UNxx-E or BB-ESxx-E ones. the -E is important.

Hollowtech II is even easier.
They only come as etype.
Hence the three spacers (6:cool: or one spacer (73)
