Re:

CD transport issue fixed. When the replacement was packaged and posted the plastic rotating platter was squished down onto its spindle by about 2 to 3mm so cds were grounding out on the body of the laser unit. I pulled it off and repositioned, pushing down a bit at a time.

And external DACS are very bad for your health  Having prevaricated for a few months I finally bought one having decided that in a few years I'll be too old too tell any difference anyway. Got a Benchmark DAC1. Subtle improvements on Apaches mods so hats off Andy! Bass and drums now really crisp and tight, snare drums really rattle.Worth the money? Certainly. Although I have spent the last 3 weeks going to bed at midnight as I have had to re- listen to my entire cd collection :D

how does it sound?

don't know yet!!
am waiting until the wee Albarry PP1 amp arrives (hopefully by saturday) then i can plug em both in and sit back and listen to the results!

That Pioneer is lovely :)

Albarry? Some have a reputation for instability which usually involves boiling your tweeters (but as far as I know it's more of an issue with the big monobloks).

There's a small few (British, unfortunately!) manufacturers out there who think designing an amp for unconditional stability ruins sound quality. Those people generally believe in crystal therapy, green pens for CDs, and £1000 cables sound better than £20 ones though, so I tend to disregard them as deluded fools.

So it will be up for delivery during the week next week? W/e is no good as there'll be no one there.

Re:

got my aura amp back with improved blueness- Andy really is a star man, sounding better than ever

I lost the chance to snare a meridian 560 20 bit cd player the other day- lusted after these BITD but wondered if anyone had heard one- please tell me they were overrated ha ha as he was asking £150 and that seemed like a bargain (so much so that it was sold in under an hour on gumtree baa).

Re:

if you mean a 506 then yeah, i had one yonks ago, with the yellow logo/button.
a real disappointment sonically and especially build-wise. i thought\hoped that the big panel that the cd tray was behind was motorised, but no, it wasn't even damped in any way, the tray just pushed it open by battering out the way, it was a very quick in\out action! very unrefined i thought for a meridian product! sound wise it was nothing to write home about, my 991 rotel showed it a clean pair of heels!
