CD transport issue fixed. When the replacement was packaged and posted the plastic rotating platter was squished down onto its spindle by about 2 to 3mm so cds were grounding out on the body of the laser unit. I pulled it off and repositioned, pushing down a bit at a time.
And external DACS are very bad for your health :facepalm: Having prevaricated for a few months I finally bought one having decided that in a few years I'll be too old too tell any difference anyway. Got a Benchmark DAC1. Subtle improvements on Apaches mods so hats off Andy! Bass and drums now really crisp and tight, snare drums really rattle.Worth the money? Certainly. Although I have spent the last 3 weeks going to bed at midnight as I have had to re- listen to my entire cd collection
