The companies making bicycles from wood

I read that article, and have mixed views.

I love the idea, but I don't actually see the 'advantage', environmentally or otherwise, over other materials.

Particularly in aesthetics, as I don't see much other than ugly modern designs with wood inserted into the whole.

Wooden steering wheels look nice, but I am partial to a steel one wrapped in leather.

I actually love the look of carbon, especially when it is laid up with the weave showing.

Wood is, for me, just another hipster trend.

Not that that is a bad thing, anything making bikes hip is great, but just not for me.

One thing that might be cool is using thin veneer over carbon. That might make super light, yet super beautiful, finishes possible.

Wood's got potential for making bikes, it's a really great material - springy, resilient, and even light. I'm sure there's ways of making very good bikes from wood - bamboo / carbon has been done (although technically bamboo is a grass) - but none of those appear to be examples of anything but making "cool" "bikes" for beardy hipster @!#)&!@${&^NO SIGNAL

I think maybe there’s a reason they stopped making them from wood very quickly. Niche, trendy, expensive. Perfect for the modern consumer.
