This is my better half's ride in Co. Donegal...

After changing the wheels to 700c size, would I be able to fit long-drop, double pivot calipers here...

Your input would be appreciated as these are incredibly awful brakes. Once the brakes are sorted I can get on with the " upgrade. " ( bar end shifters, Brooks saddle etc. )

In theory yes, but you'd need to check the drop required - looks like quite a drop on the rear - already at the bottom of the arms on current wheels.

Cheers Ted, plan is to get her modern hybrid out there and do a swap next year. Lovely bike; just brakes like the Titanic with a polystyrene anchor.

If those are Weinmann deep drop brakes on 27s, then I think you will struggle to get anything on a pair of 700s. I considered doing a similar thing on my Dawes but I've decided to stick with 27s as I can't get brakes on 700s.

Wiggle have Miche deep drop dual pivots for £20. I'm going to swap those for my Weinmanns, still on the 27s though.

spa cycles have some very deep dual pivot alhongas (or similar name) that supposed to work well for about £20/pair

You can fit adaptors - SJS probably have them - essentially and inch or so of steel that screws into the existing hole and gives you a new, lower one to mount your brake on.

I had to use the deep drop Miche calipers on a road bike I converted, they worked but there was (I felt) noticably more flex in them than shorter versions. I think I got mine from Charlie the Bikemonger.

Cheers for the replies lads, much appreciated. Any other suggestions and Dawes Galaxy-based advice much welcome.
