Suspension stem advice

scored this the other day - really have no idea about it, but wanted to try one out for ages.

It's a 1" quill.

Anybody know of a way to get a 1" quill into a 1 1/8" steerer if I wanted to do that, this would apply to any 1" quill stem and a 1 1/8" steerer, I guess?


Also anybody tell me anything about this particular model? It says Bellingham, Washington and that's about it.

It was really more heavy than a flexstem…
 
If you took a 25.4 to 28.6 seatpost shim, that would be the right thickness, but you want to shim down from 25.4 to 22.2. So couldn't you just cut a 10mm slot out that shim to reduce its diameter? I know it wouldn't be quite round, but it'd be round enough wouldn't it?
 
The reason you don't see those suspension stems anymore is they didn't work very well, most were crap. One of the obvious problems is that when you hit an obstacle your whole upper body drops as much as the stem flexes, causing balance problems-not to mention most stems of that ilk had no damping, just a spring-hence the rise of real suspension forks.

that was my first thought, but there's no name on it. It could well be - where were they made?

Indeed this one has no damping, but I'm curious to try it anyway :D
