Suntour/Browning Beast Elec front derail up and running

Dirt Disciple
Well after many years collecting all the right ingredients (about 9 yrs actually) I have just built up a 90 Stumpy with the Suntour Browning Front mech/crank setup. Just finished and took it for the obligatory round the block test (its after midnight). Wow, wow wow.
When I put it all together I noticed that most of the plastic parts are of a very brittle plastic (luckily I have multiple spares) but all the metal parts are pretty close tolerance and good quality. I was dying to see how it worked and it is so smoooooth its unbeliveable. I had to look twice to see it had shifted . There can be some delay due to it only shifting at one point but there is no noise and no feeling of being between gears. Seriously slick. I have my doubts about durability given it took forever to get the solonoid correctly adjusted and I'd bet dirt is not kind to that part at least.
More tests and pics to come

Ah, very interesting! Looking forward to see some pics. I own a Suntour B.E.A.S.T. as well. It will come on one of my future projects.

Cheers,
Andreas

Good stuff! I remember these in SunTour catalogues as well as being demonstrated on the BBC Tomorrow's World programme. The clip doesn't appear to be on YouTube though, not that I can find.

Can't imagine they'd be very compatible with UK trail conditions, mind you...?

This thread needs pics and maybe a vid

Any ideas what you'll put yours on yet Andreas?

Not yet, John.

Currently working on a dropbar project (Overbury's). BEAST project is next in line ...

Yeah - I'll keep a look out for pics and so on as well. Got vague memories of these from the time, so looking forward to it.
