Righty ho. Found out a couple of weeks back I'm (jointly) best man for one of my oldest pals. The wedding is quite soon and the date we set for the stag do even sooner.

As is often the case when things are done by committee haven't actually got too far into the organising.

Basically looking for suggestions or recommendations for locations / accomodations / venues. Most will be coming from Bristol area so thinking either the South West or South Wales. Probably base it around some activity like surfing or cycling (of course) and pubs / curry / club etc.

Sadly a Heathy-esque jaunt to Eastern Europe complete with cheap booze, women, automatic weapons and midgets is not on the cards.

JV, have done two based in Cardiff.

Stay in cheap B&B, or if out term time, Uni accom.

Surfing on the gower was great, also had a bbq on beach
Did archery (which was surprisingly manly)
Did Quadbiking (bit shit tbh)
Could also go biking to a trailcentre..

Evening in Cardiff good

First night in Cardiff Bay
Second in town
Loads of pubs, and cheesy clubs too

Caroline street for chips/kebabs at end of night

Bunk Barns are good for cheap accommodation leaving more cash to spend on booze & activities and well whatever takes your fancy on the evening....

I've organised one stag do, hired a Bunk Barn in a nice location near a few good pubs, went clay shooting in the day and pub crawl in the evening returning to the bunk barn for tunes and more beer and stag do shenanigans

Been on another stag do where we went caving in the day, again stopped at a bunk barn near Sheffield, had a minibus take us to/from Sheffield, pub crawl and the usual kinda stuff again, curry booze, ladies not wearing much clothing... etc...

1st in google search for bunk barn south wales, looks OK to me & it's just down the road from a Welsh Distillery http://www.clickholidaycottages.co.uk/h ... ge3186.asp

I recently went on one in Whitesands (near St Davids) in Pembrokeshire. Good surfing, plenty of camping and decent nightlife in Haverford West. I hear the coasteering is a laugh!

Bit different to the usual (but still wicked) Newquay which I also did recently!

Both drivable from Bristol.

Mine was in Amsterdam - stayed at the Globe hotel / hostel, bar with table footie & pool on ground floor.

Exit front door, turn left 200yds - red light district.
Exit other door, turn right 200yds - ditto.

Banana bar.

Job done ;-)

Day after coffee, croissant & OJ at the Amsterdam botanic gardens - very civilised.

No No No
Have you done this before :?

Accommodation-yourself+ friends .Not needed ;) You drink yourself sober then wander round in a kind of haze till you go home.
Accommodation-Groom. Also not needed unless you class being handcuffed to a lamppost Accommodation :?

Actually the suggestion of Amsterdam is quite a good one and one i'd suggest myself having been there so often.
Locals are very friendly in a cosmopolitan sort of way.Accommodation is plentiful and suitable to all budgets.Beer is quality and probably fresh  .
Its flat for you roadies ;) you can run TT

a couple of years ago when i was in coed y brenin (north wales, sorry) i bumped into the guys from 'pedal on' pretty much the full team, including andy the owner, they were on i think jamie norfolk's stag weekend.

basically the drove up early saturday morning, did one of the bigger loops, well they are all bloody proper fit!! had some munchies at the trail centre, then went and did a shorter loop. then headed back to there acomodation in Dolgellau, there are a few pubs, some are a little rough (we witnessed a full on wild west style chair chucking brawl in one!) but they ended up getting leathered in the Royal Ship inn which is where we were staying, so we got pissed with them!! :D

also there is a good but small indian restaurant in walking distance of the hotel. defo a case of book it though.

the royal ship inn is £160 for 2 nights for 2 people sharing a room including breakfast for friday and saturday nights and they have free wifi.

if i ever have the misfortune of needing a stag night/weekend then this is what i would like, being a cyclist and all. for the none cyclists they could come up for evening? or have a secondary get together for them later.

I went to Latvia for my last stag do.

Once you get the sex thing out of the way, the girls are a laugh. Just tell them you have no money, and they'll stop trying to get you to do dances. And 10 days there was the same price as a weekend in Blackpool.

But personally, I would want to do a camping barn thing. Cheap, nothing to worry about trashing, and fun. The YHA has them; if it gets you student discount, you're welcome to borrow my student YHA card and pretend to be me.

Some good suggestions thus far.

Thanks to those who've suggested Amsterdam. Last time I checked this wasn't in the UK although maybe my 1984 Weetabix world atlas on which I rely for these sort of things isn't to be trusted.

Special thanks to Dyna-ti, will certainly give sleeping rough some thought. Anymore great suggestions? Actually your best keeping them to yourself, wouldn't want to have too much fun.
