Stuff you own but daren't use?

I've got this Middleburn chainset which came on a 1993/4 Marin (with some other bits....) I bought off eBay recently..... I've got no qualms about using the cranks, bit it's got 2 Pace rings (inner and outer) with the Extrudagroove (SP?) slots in the outer and an old, red, Middleburn middle ring, all on a red spider.
All are virtually unworn

Now it's an odd choice of ratios 22/34/46 but it would suit my Inbred commuter/tourer very well I think.

But......but....... I have this nagging doubt about using such lovely parts on a bike like that. I won't be using them on the Explosif I'm building (I've got something better for that and I don't want red bits anyway) and once they're gone, they're gone....

Is it just me?

(I might just sell the rings, but then I need a new spider for modern 4-bolt stuff)

Decisions, decisions

Having serious qualms about unpacking my Mavic wishbones when the time comes to fit them to something.

Find it hard to use a set of nearly perfect Tioga Wonder Dawgs I've got. Keep nearly using them but then bottle it and refit the Mythos

Sorry I don't get it. If you bought them use them, if you don't want to use them sell them. Simples.

I think the likelihood of you using something is linked to how long it took you to find it. If the pair of tyres that match your "forever" bike took years to find its going to be difficult to use them.

I'm with bmOp700f if you bought them use them if you dont want to use them sell them.
However I must add dont go chasing rare stuff if you dont have good reason. Its costly and it deprives someone else of something they may have a use for.
Hoarding stuff just for the sake of it is well....WRONG

Choice is yours though, just ignore me.............................

I know what you mean. I need something for a bike which is pretty rare but I know someone in here who has what I need. However as I know they collect them but never sell them I don't think he'll give them up. Shame to just sit on a shelf.

Yeah. Usually I'm in the 'use it, thats what it's for' camp but I'm soooooo unsure this time! I bought the Marin to split and keep just the wheels and the brakes, but it had so much other nice stuff on it I've only managed to part with the Ringle Moby seatpost because it was the wrong size!

I was going to sell the crankset to Rob. But I neeeed it!

And of course last night I bought a really decent Kona Hahannah to do up and sell. But it's a nice bike.....! :)
