Stuck/fused pedals. What’s the solution?

Normally we bitch about not having pictures. For once a mp3 audio would have helped this thread. Stereo mind. It is 2021 after all.

Eitherway congratulations. However, were the pedal metal cages not simply screwed on? Why the cut? Were the screws rusted and buggered?

Was all this tat off a Marin BTW? Seem to recall either early Marin or Kona speced WI cranks. For sure those pedals were put in with sod all grease thinking that the customer would automatically upgrade to SPuDs at the moment of purchase.

I believe the cutting of the cages was probably a form of therapy... Especially if you look at the state of them

I believe in years to come this saga will be right up there with the likes of Beowulf and The rhyme of the ancient mariner... When it is we can all hold our heads high and say out loud "We were there!!".

After twatting my hand with a poorly aimed hammer, then sliding an old handlebar over the end of an Allen key buried in the crank end of a stuck pedal, I thought I’d check back on this thread for inspiration.
I didn’t expect to be congratulating you 15 pages in - epic - well done!

Marin specced WI cranks and front hubs.

Yep Marin. Cage screws were an option but hacksaw was quicker. I’m afraid you’ll have to settle for my onomatopoeia.

I killed the albatross.

And what are they worth? About a tenner?
No, more.

Especially if you apply a little PLC

If they are the Sugino “cast in Japan” ones maybe £30+

Cast in the USA “proper” Women’s Institute then considerably more.

PS I’ve got a set of repro WI crank stickers for those sitting in a draw somewhere. E020BA3A-4768-4802-9186-4BD648D21CAB.jpeg
