My collection can no longer be contained in my downtown basement.

I am looking at getting a 8x7 locker or larger. I assume my best bet is to hang the complete bikes. I have a ton of wheelsets, forks, and bins of parts.

Anyone else had some success and could give a bit of advice on how to make the best use of space?

Buy a tardis!

Hahaha ... that would help.

Failing that, I think I'll box up all the complete bikes and stack them. Gotta maximize the space.

I understand your trouble with space, I had the same problem a while back.

It would be a real shame to box up the completed bikes, not being able to see them after all the hard work you have done.

There is only one option. ....

Buy a bigger house :-D

I feel like boxed is the safer storage solution. I'd love to display them but if they are in a locker out of my sight I don't know if it matters if they are whole. I can take them out how when I want to ride them :)

In the midst of a larger house now, but I'd be wall to wall in a larger space to.

I suppose I could sell a bike or 12, but I suck at that. Just attempted it and wimped out like a baby. I did manage to part with a few frames though.

Re:

I had the same problem when my rental got flooded (twice) and had to move out with too many bikes! Resorted to getting a storage unit. As you can see in the pics - Heavy DH bikes on ground and lighter frames/racing bikes hanging by meat hooks and tie down hooks. Used a upside down coffee table as a wheel/tyre rack. Removed pedals from bikes and each one separated by cardboard sheets to avoid scratching. I usually take out 4 bikes at a time that I use and rotate them depending on seasons and weather conditions! By the way I threw out most of the furniture and kept all the bikes!

Looks like my basement ... Haha.

If my math works out I can get a couple dozen bikes boxed in a 8x7x7 locker with room to spare for about 10-12 bins stuff. That should hold me for a few months

I'm in the process of having to build a 16x8 shed for everything. My yard is pretty big though. What kind of space do you have in your back yard Jim? I have an idea of your general area and its probably not big. For about $1400 I'm all in, and the wife gets the basement space back that I've been hijacking up to now. Win win. Storage ain't cheap, I know.

I live in Downtown Toronto. My whole backyard is 20x12 :)
