Stem advise? Help needed. Out of my depth

Hi All

I have had the same mountain bike for 20 odd years and I know nothing which is why I could do with all of your help. I have a Diamond Back Sorrento Sport bought in around 1992. I would like to replace the Stem to an adjustable one so that I can get more comfortable on the bike. I am trying to find the correct type or size I guess and there are different types out there.
Does anyone know if old bikes were all the same stem size? or what it would likely be? or could anyone recommend a new adjustable stem that would fit????

I'm pretty sure that it will be a 1 1/8" threaded headset and stem. I even have one in the toolbox if you want a cheap one..say £5 posted?

Sorry only just seen that it is adjustable. Will it defo fit a Sorrento Sport? remember I am clueless on this but can't be hard to fit

The 1992 catalogue in the Archive & Gallery section here says it is a 1 1/8" (oversize in those days)
