Sram Vs Shimano

retro, don't really know as I only ever used Shimano

modern, I use shimano XT cassettes, 'cos they're lighter than the equivalent Sram offering & don't cause burring on my Hope ProII freehub body.

I run Sram X9 shifters & rear mech's as they're less prone to having shifting issues due to gunky cables & they have a more positive feel to the shifts

Front mech is a Shimano XT, as it shifts better than the Sram ones

Sram chains are better than Shimano chains, but I now use KMC chains as I feel they're better value & last just as long as Sram chains.

Second vote for suntour – not seen as often as the big S, but really nice quality and lasts for ages.

XTR,any version kicks ass.Or singlespeed with a KMC chain and Surly sprockets  Tried sram XO and wasn't that impressed but love the roadie stuff.

XT-R works. But I'm pissed with the prices. So time to switch. It's never good for one large company to control the market in any thing. Just look at computers as well
BITD I ran Suntour or mixed it with Shimano

I don't think anyone will better Shimano in the bang for buck stakes,as they have almost all the market and can price fix!!
Now that may well land me in court?

Also Shimanos stuff works so well, there's nothing to touch it. IMHO

Although thay can't say they make an mtb groupset.
Well unless they stump up the cash to licence A-head.

Sram for me.

I havent used a Shimano product for years. And don't intend ever to do so.

Al, Remember these are only the ramblings of an old man!! ;)

New Shimano is stupid expensive for what you get. So for my modern bikes, Sram X-0, for most everything else, Deore DX baby!
