Specialized Epic. Collection only Scarborough

Very nice, £750 so not cheap but probably still good value for what it is. Seems to have a lot of upgraded parts.

"Circa 1990 extremely rare Specialized Epic mtb 18" (USA made) excellent condition full XT 7sp Nukeproof hubs also includes 8sp Xt gears and wheelset... ring for more details...£750."

Hi, very nice frame I love them….but just FYI this is a 1991/1992 fourth generation Specialized Epic. The first generation of 1988/89 had a different conformation of the bottom bracket shell and consequently of the rear horizontal chainstays on which the for the rear brakes were fixed (see mtb on Mombat even if medical that the mtb is from 1990). The second series of 1989/90 had the same shape as the first series but the rear brake pivots were placed on the seatstays. From the third series of 1990/91 (to be clear the one with the same livery as the one used by Ned in Durango) Specialized modifies the bottom bracket shell and consequently also the shape of the rear horizontal tubes, furthermore from this moment the distinction between Epic and Epic is born Ultimate (identical geometry and carbon tubes but for the junctions the first uses steel the second uses Titanium. Of the fourth series/generation like the one on sale, there are both the Epic and Epic ultimate versions with identical livery (on Mombat you can find the Epic Ultimate). Then the Epic version dies and the Epic Ultimate version only continues with the fifth version, where the carbon tubes are natural and the titanium joints are painted gray (for this version there is a next step, it is final with the numbered series 1-60).I say this because of each series I have one frame, only the numbered one is missing.

Also the early ones were called 'Stumpjumper Epic' before they dropped it from the Stumpjumper line-up and moved forward with just the Epic name.

I omitted the fact that the first three versions were called Specialized Stumpjumper Epic, I apologize but for me I am always and only Epic. I specify that of the third version, that is the 1990 Durango one, I saw some Frames that had both the Specialized and Stumpjumper writings on the vertical tube. I attach the photos of the various Frames to understand the differences/evolution over time….

———————————

Photos 1 and 2 are from the first version 1988/89, photos 3 and 4 are from the second version 1989/90, photos 5 and 6 concern the change that occurred from the third version 1990/1991 which was later maintained in the next version. These last two photos refer to the fifth and last version of the Epic/Epic Ultimate family.
