is it just me or is the drive side on this bike on the left hand side ? :?

:?

If I ran a bike factory I'd make sure we made our own shifters and then I'd make bikes with the gears on the left, that way if anybody bought a bike and wanted to upgrade the brakes the only place they could buy higher spec left hand shifters from would be... me!

I shall sink your ship of logic with a gripshift torpedo........... :p

Though the problem would be the mechs, would it not......... :?

Actually, I'd have two chainsets/ drivetrains with drive on both sides. And the ability to use different gears on either side!!
I think I'm obsessing too much on this two-sides-not-matching.......damned lobotomy....... :x

The hub would ratchet the wrong way too so you'd only be able to rid backwards.

You could make a fixie with the drive on the left side, couldnt you? The only problem I can think of is with chainring chainstay clearance.
