All the rage back then, at least for some of us.
Good fun and harmless.. unless your hole was.a bit to big.
Crank looks tidy, rear mech looks off a bit but then there is the mech stop in the other bit.
Also seems to lack the hole through the main silver hanger arm (as per later mechs)

Re:

Wasn’t the crank thing started by Paul Lazenbys Team Marin feature in MBUK?
Have to say I did drill and counter-sink a set of Sugino Fuse 500s, nothing quite as bad as the mad panto-butcher of Poland though.

I've never had that problem tbh

Drilled out many a mech and Chainset back in the day, used short cage road mechs etc etc... Anything to save a nanogram or two

Holes look a mess. Not equidistant, different sizes, countersinking's a clusterf*ck. If you're gonna do it, do it right at least.

That's a Grafton brake on the front Frank, IRD only on the rear.
Beautiful bike, you're a dark horse...what else do you have? ;)
Mart,
Well, I do have that PRST that you so graciously helped me to acquire from over yonder, and a bunch of storage space that enables me to build a nice collection, but what I don't seem to have is a lot of time or workshop space. I hope to solve one of those issues by building my dream garage within the next year so I won't have to work on bikes in the kitchen and temporarily store them in the bedroom and bathroom. But I digress.

As for drilling, I've always wondered if there are places on a frame that I could get away with drilling out without substantially reducing the frame's integrity. I'm primarily thinking about the square aluminum tubing on an all-aluminum Nishiki Alien or an ACX. Goodness knows there are plenty of cracked Nishiki aluminum frames out there to experiment with.

Re:

i ran with a track chain that had hollow rivets..light as hell but had a habit of snapping now and then...mostly at the worst moment..
