Soma Groove, groupset questions.

Breogan

Dirt Disciple
Hi there, I have a nos Soma Groove frame, in baja blue color. I started mounting it: thomson stem and seatpost, RS Reba, AEST brake levers etc..
My idea with this bike is to use, it won´t be a garage queen. It will be equipated with two items I like :

-Tioga Disk Drive:I have one  Thats why the rear brake will be v-brake. My idea is not to use this wheel everyday, just sometimes, swaping it with a normal one.
-Thumbies: I am used to them, I love my Suntour Pro in another bike. They would be either Microshift SL-M10 or Microshift SL-T09,

The question is, considering that I will use this bike, should I go for the 10 speeds (SL-M10) or either 9 speeds (SL-T09), depending on this I will have to chose the rest of the groupset..
I am a against this no-sense continuos increasing of speeds by the manufacturers, but on the hand I won´t like to have difficulties in a couple of years to find decent 9 speed chain and cassetes (and more expensive..). Would be ok to use just 2 front gears using a 10sp cassete?

To have it more difficult, I know that the Disk Drive is only compatible with some hubs, is a 8 sp one valid for 9sp or and 10 sp?

Thank for your help, and apologies for my English

Can't really help with your questions, but always fancied a Groove, so how about some photos?

Me I'm sick to death of the increase in cassette numbers these days, think that 8 speed were the halcion days & will be sticking resolutely to 9 speed for as long as I can

Re:

8 speed 9 speed and 10 speed Shimano all use the same freehub body so you should have no problem with hubs.
I'm still on 8 speed on all my bikes apart from one, which is 11 speed SRAM.
I have heard it said that 10 speed actually works better than 9 speed so when I eventually run out of 8 speed stuff I will be missing 9 speed out.

I wouldn't worry too much about spares support: Shimano 7 & 8 speed stuff is widely available.

The change in pull-per-click with 10 speed definitely makes it less tetchy to set up and more tolerant of dirt than 9-speed. However I expect that the slimmer chain will be less durable than older types.
