1970s? Harthiner 3-speed roadster for sale in what I believe to be original condition... if you're hankering for a rare and elegant vintage ladies bike, here she is!
I do know she's Danish with German components, but resembles a mini-Dutch roadster. And the manufacturer had a racing team in the 1940s and '50s... that's about all I know, I've never seen anything like her on the road, on here or anywhere else.
I acquired her a couple of months ago and decided she was too rare and authentic to attempt full restoration, so I gave her a good clean and a basic service for my girlfriend to use... but TBH she's happier with her '82 Hercules as it's a bit faster.
Lovely to tootle around on as is (the alloy rims and fairly small overall size make her a bit lighter than she looks) but the hub gears require attention as I'm only getting 2 gears at present... expert cable adjustment is all it needs really I think. The kick back brake works well though, as does the front brake, and everything else is in good working order. Would suit female rider up to 5'6" IMO.
Specifications:
20.5" c-t lugged steel step-thru frame & forks with matching full length mudguards and chainguard, and front & rear dynamo light fittings (with attachments on the dowbtube for the rear light cable)
3 speed Sachs Torpedo Schweinfurt hub gears with kick-back rear brake (and standard side-pull front brake)
Union front hub & pedals
Nicklin cottered crankset
600 x 28A alloy rims (24 x 1 3/8")
brand new Michelin Diabolo tyres (usable original gumwall tyres available if you want them)
Mertens sprung saddle
removable vinyl skirt guard - looks nicer without IMO
Gusia alloy kickstand
I also have the original rear wheel lock - a seatstay bridge mounted unit made by Basta - which I removed in a failed refurb attempt - it doesn't lock properly but looks nice (can post up a photo if required).
She could do with the cable outers matching up and I've a length of period (ie: white faded to cream) cable outer I'll supply if needed for the gear cable... fitting a new gear cable inner at the same time might be prudent if you want to get the gears working properly.
The bell is not original but it is period correct, and the lefthand grip has a 1.5" split in it on the underside. The paintwork has a few small rust spots which have mostly been touched up at some point.
PRICE:
£125 collected from South Manchester... I'd prefer not to post it, but I may be able to organise delivery by mutual arrangement with a fellow Manchester based forum member for a small fee.
