1970s? Harthiner 3-speed roadster for sale in what I believe to be original condition... if you're hankering for a rare and elegant vintage ladies bike, here she is!

I do know she's Danish with German components, but resembles a mini-Dutch roadster. And the manufacturer had a racing team in the 1940s and '50s... that's about all I know, I've never seen anything like her on the road, on here or anywhere else.

I acquired her a couple of months ago and decided she was too rare and authentic to attempt full restoration, so I gave her a good clean and a basic service for my girlfriend to use... but TBH she's happier with her '82 Hercules as it's a bit faster.

Lovely to tootle around on as is (the alloy rims and fairly small overall size make her a bit lighter than she looks) but the hub gears require attention as I'm only getting 2 gears at present... expert cable adjustment is all it needs really I think. The kick back brake works well though, as does the front brake, and everything else is in good working order. Would suit female rider up to 5'6" IMO.

Union front hub & pedals
Nicklin cottered crankset
600 x 28A alloy rims (24 x 1 3/8")

removable vinyl skirt guard - looks nicer without IMO

I also have the original rear wheel lock - a seatstay bridge mounted unit made by Basta - which I removed in a failed refurb attempt - it doesn't lock properly but looks nice (can post up a photo if required).

She could do with the cable outers matching up and I've a length of period (ie: white faded to cream) cable outer I'll supply if needed for the gear cable... fitting a new gear cable inner at the same time might be prudent if you want to get the gears working properly.

The bell is not original but it is period correct, and the lefthand grip has a 1.5" split in it on the underside. The paintwork has a few small rust spots which have mostly been touched up at some point.

I'm thinking late 70s. You should be able to see a date stamped in the hub to get a better idea.

This kind of bike is seeing a revival in this country and this one is in really nice condition. Never heard of this brand before though. I suspect it's a generic bike with a shop's "own brand" labels on it. Would be interesting to see the frame number to get an idea who actually made it... Would also be able to see the vintage from the last letter of it.

Yes, I wondered if it was a 'shop re-brand' as there's so little info online. Number on the rear hub shell is 36... could be 86 I suppose? Front hub has 048 stamped and the back pedal brake fixing arm has U W

Incidentally, I Googled the hub and this link came up, also has 36 on the rear hub shell:

Schweinfurt is the place of manufacture, it literally means Pig Ford  and it is, "the home of the German bearing industry". This link has some good info:

The hub is so very quiet compared to a Sturmey Archer eg an AW 3-speed model hub!

Anyway, while the bike looks old, the rims are alloy and the front brake is sidepull so late '70s/early '80s sounds right :? The 'top' tube has a Club Shor decal (or is it Shon, or Shop?).

the frame number is:

S530750

any ideas :?:

Which is not a Danish frame number.

I'm wondering if it's not a frame made for export to Germany....

It's not sold yet no... it's here next to me now! One lady decided she needed to sell her bike first and passed over to a second buyer who only has £100 and I'd like to get the full asking price. Are you around tomorrow to come over (I see you're in Manchester)?

Please PM me your details and I'll get back to you tonight as I'm working shortly.
