Snowflake Spoking

I bought 3 sets of these from an Ex-Raleigh wheel builder, he built them up for his manager 'back in the day' after a similiar design had ben in a magazine.
Rode them for a year, nothing too mental, when a spoke went it sent the wheel well out (no riding home!)
If you like the look go for it, if you want to ride it regularly I wouldn't bother.

I loved mine,i ever built a couple when i was a mechanic between 91 and 98 one was mine , did creak when out of the saddle now and then but never broke a spoke and didnt go out of true,i use radial now and thats good as well but normal 3 cross is probs the best for strength and longivity

I ran one on my Orange P7 years ago, for years without any issues at all. I built this way as I brought a Hope hub a couple of days before xmas and then in the shop changed my mind and brought a Hope suspension hub which had a bigger flange, but forgot to swap the spokes for shorter ones. I snow flaked the spokes to get rid of the excess length as I was being impatient to swap spokes
The wheel was bomb proof, I did not have to true it and the build was extremely stiff.

Joe Waugh at M. Steel Cycles still builds them (if you ask nicely!). The last pair he built for me were the best I've ever had, but then I went and sold them
