People seem to forget that the smoke was a front tyre too before the dart came along.
Smoke is great at shedding mud - dart washes out all the time. From memory I dont think I ever found a surface that it was happy on.
Been very impressed with some old Wolbers but I think I may possibly have the last unused pair in existence.
Later Tioga Factory tyres were pretty good too but they already seem to be evaporating. IRC Mythos were pretty good in the summer.
Ritchey Z-max have been ace this winter. Ritchey Megabite are still around and pretty good too.
Brand new - Continental, Schwalbe etc if you are not bothered by the look of a tyre.

Cheers man. How about a front and rear specific set up? Ur two different style of tyres to compliment each other ? Such as the traction and navigator pro and smoke dart? Rather than same tyre

To be honest, I rarely worry about the front. Its traction when climbing that is the most important for me personally.
For the real muddy bits I have an old Conti Survivor - the from would then just be whatever happened to be on the wheel that day.

WTB Velociraptors always worked very well - apart from in snow when they became useless. I suspect the same would be true in sand.
Nowadays I like Schwalbe Rocket Ron and Panaracer Fire XC Pro - but neither is front- or rear-specific.

I agree with a lot of what LF said, always found the dart usless on anything. Much prefer Smoke up front with smoke light out back.
Alsom like the smmoke light on the rear with a psyco 2 ont he front was pretty good.
FOr pairs, the IRC mythos front and rear were good, But I probably paired the mythos II front with the michelin light s on the rear for a lond time.
Also the Tioga factory XC, front combined with Factory XC slick for dry and non slick for wet worked well.

+1 for Velociraptors, I rather stupidly sold my only pair to Trebz on here and he seemed to be having a great time on our last ride while I spent most of the day picking myself up off the ground

Anyone tried Onza Aggro's? I put a pair on the wife's Kona but that's replaced with a new Gt. thinking of trying them on my Explosif but if they aren't upto much I'll put some Velociraptors on.
