Slicks - 1.5" or 1.25"?

BiTD I used 1.9 Tioga City Slickers on My Scott Montana for my daily commute...

...these days I use the Schwalbe City Jet in 1.9 amber wall because it's a clone of the Tioga.

I think narrow slicks look naff on an MTB, and considering the state of the roads today I don't know why anyone would ride a narrow tyre?

Look how many roadies you see of a weekend, sitting on a verge in the middle of no-where mending yet another puncture while their tubby mates all stand around taking a much needed breather!

1.25's aren't that narrow. I have mine on some 28 spoke Mavic 717's which at 100psi can bang through pot holes but still remain fairly light and fast next to a roadbike wheel. I tend to agree with you on looks though. 1.25's look small but bigger slicks look all round and fat. The only slicks I like the look of on an mtb are the ones with side knobbles like a conti travel contact or something and in 1.75 sort of size.

I dunno, 1.9 Tioga City Slickers looked nicely proportioned to me BiTD...

...lots of other period features here too; toe clips and straps, Cateye rear light, Brahma Bar, trainers and white socks, string-back
gloves, bum-bag, hair!

Panaracer Paselas are excellent tyres: I've put many thousands of miles on them, commuting and touring. I run them at around 90psi, and have worn more than one pair down to the cords without a single puncture. Recommended without hesitation.

For a little more cush, You could try Hutchinson Top Slicks or Michelin XCR Road.

I'd probably add Vredestein S-licks into the mix for money-no-object lightweight slick of bling.
Vredestein S-Licks are good tyres, but they haven't been made in a few years.

I have 1.00 Continental Grand Prixs on my single speed Zaskar and I really like them - it absolutely flies and the only time I've had punctures so far was when I hit a hidden curb!

Schwalbe Sity Jet 1.5" Amberwalls for me on the Singlespeed commuter.

They are very good, comfortable to ride on and look the business too!

+1 for these. Not so skinny that they look out of proportion, they still give low rolling resistance and can be inflated to reasonably high pressures. Only thing is the claimed puncture resistance - I get regular punctures with them but it could be to do with the prickly bushes the farmers regularly cut on my commute.

After all that, I think I'll stick with the City Jets.....

Never got chance to fully use them on a previous bike so I'll give them a good go this time, just wondered if the Panaracer's would have been a better option but seems like there's not much to choose between them..

:D

yeah, i love the kojaks, have a set for summer on the badboy.....though my old city slickers must be a good 15yrs old now, they are often stuck on a single speed come this time of year.

2.0 is ideal as they are more forgiven on the bumps.
