Dirt Disciple
i know is a bit of a shame but im going to put some sus forks on my 95/6 kliauea, got some bomber z3 lights which i was thinking about putting on, they work nice, but think they might be too chunky looking. was thinking about some xc51s, or similar as these were specced with the bikes anyway (think thats the name) but not sure of the funtion or quality or travel. anyone used these or dh3s, is there much difference, which are the top forks etc?? how do they compare to the bombers??

so tell me your stories and opinions on the skinny legged marzocchis!!

Forks

I would put something decent and modern on. A set of Reba SL race would work well as you can adjust the travel/ride height with the positive and negative air chambers, their plush very stiff and with the poploc, you can still lock them out for fire roads.

I do have XC700 and DH3. A friend has a XC51. The XC700 has a far more serious brace than the XC51. I do not perceive my XC700 as wet noodle. I think the DH3 is less stiff than the XC700 as it is longer, has more travel (shorter insert). Old Marzocchi had a bit the reputation (like more old hydro forks) of leaking. Apparently I am lucky. It never happened to me. Understood Marzocchi still does servicing, what is exceptional. Other companies expect you to trow away and buy new.

Have several Rond Hydro Pro forks too. They are stiff and sturdy forks. Damping is quite firm, but they really take the edges very well. They have machined everything what looks very good. Only flaw you have a hard time getting air in them. The original pump sucks big time. Moreover: See to it you get one with black crown. There has been a recall for the silver ones.

Chainreactioncycles do seal and bush kits for all the marzocchi forks including the early ones.

Had a set of XC51's BITD, thought they were ok at the time but stripped them down after they started leaking, ended up in a thousand bits with no idea how to get them back together

In contrast i've just changed the seals and oil in my Bomber B1's and that was dead easy.

Rond

Always had long life with Rond Quake forks and no leakage prob's. Got some quake air on a Zaskar at the mo which are really plush and don't leak! But they have a silver crown, never heard of a recall on these?

I were talking on the mid 90s Hydro Pro, not the Rond/Magura's.

Hydro Pro's looked pretty much like this, but without the coat =>

Personally I not really like the coat on this Rebel. It covers the the sharp edges of the CNC'ing a bit ...plus I am no fan of red. Earlier Hydro Pros were naked and looked more classy imo.
