'Simple' question

From someone feeling a bit simple today

The Shimano 600 arabesque derailleur fitting has the limit shape that moves around the frame fitting to limit movement of the derailleur and it appears to be on the wrong side of the tag on the frame, has this been assembled wrongly by the previous owner, can it be disassembled to mount it the other way round as its on a tight spring it can't be revolved 180 degrees, OR am I just being realllly simple this morning?

I was just gonna post a picture the same they are quite simple to take a part and move round just make sure the alloy stop on the mech hasn't worn down and the steel part of the stop is sliding over it

You are right it is 180 degrees out, I have read these instructions, but still can't quite see how to turn it 180 degrees, might just be me, I'm having a day today, maybe lunch(liquid) will help

Put parts 5 and 6 in position so stop meets stop add part 3 (spring) then tension spring and place into slot then add parts 2, 1 and 7 in that order

I would not disagree with above that's the correct way, but its a basket of a job, releasing 7 then re-tension & re-installing 7 once its in place, I've just done one, one of the hardest jobs is trying to hold the RD in some form of grip / vice (without marking it) & then putting it under tension & then back together while doing it.
I accept my old fingers are not as the nimble as they used to be.

I was trying it from the other end first, I've now tried it from the right end but can't re tension the spring as you only have a really small end on the spring to grip with the needle nose pliers, also I can't find a way to clamp it together.

At least now I know it's um bastardo of a job, and not me so I will keep trying

Why would it be 180 degrees out?

Because as Clive said if the lug on the body is worn it can/will rotate

So I put it back together 180 degrees out because that's how I found it and requires no re tensioning of that spring to do so! So is really simple to put together, once back together it can be turned anti clockwise with mole grips/pliers tensioning the spring in the process, then press the steel tab with the second pare of mole grips to bend it down a touch and enable it to sit behind the worn down aluminum casing lug, job done-ish.

I think I will go back to working on my vintage car, it's way simpler than this

It works, but I'm not entirely happy, it's a bit of a slight bodge, I think I will use it for now and look out for another arabesque rear derailleur...Clive?
