Show me your KHS.

Don't know a huge amount about these, but for a KHS with the Team title I'm guessing some of the groupset has been downgraded over time? In 1993 the Team was XTR M900. I think it did slide down a bit to XT in 94/95. They were clearly still using the OX tubing which is nice, be interesting to know how the softtail rides
I can't work out what year it was yet, but it looks like it's had a long and active life. The SLX shifter and Deore derailleur are definitely much newer than the rest of the bike. I don't think the SID XCs are original either. Overall it feels pretty light and larger than a 19" frame would suggest. But I still need to do a bit of work on it before it's rideable. So far there seems to be no lube on it anywhere: the shock and its pivots in particular would benefit from stripping and greasing. After that I'll let you know!

After watching this on Ebay for a few months, decided to pull the trigger and made an off auction offer.
Quite nice as is as had been recently restored if not all period correct and rides rather nicely. Am looking at eventually making it full M 739 in the future. IMG_20220409_110939041_HDR.jpg

I’ve now added a genuine 1993 Team to the family, bringing my KHS collection to 5: 3 built up (all 93) and two frames (both 94), two Teams (93 and 94) and three Comps (my own original 93, another 93 and a 94).

The garage photo was before a build swap back to original, hence the blue/pink Team hanging from the rafters.

After some years away from tinkering with bikes the need reared it’s head once again. Away to the local equivalent of Craigslist we go, and after a few weeks this emerged:

KHS Descent, from what I can gather a -97 model. A few discrepancies from the little info I found online, namely fork and crankset. All else checks out, so until corrected I’ll go with -97. Frame is de(s)cent, some superfluous rust and a seized seatpost seems to be the current status. A smattering of different components from Shimano, Dia-Compe and SR Suntour, including a Silent Clutch rear hub (Shimano FH-R080), thought it was broken, but thankfully not. I believe this hodgepodge is original.

First on the agenda is the teardown, then I’ll decide where to go from there. At the moment I’m thinking -97 meets -22 (sorry purists) as I don’t regard this as a candidate for full time-capsule resto.

PS. In-wheel reflectors and front mudguard is allready gone!

My good old original from new 1993 KHS Team ..only thing changed is handlebars to the bars I had on it in the first place silver answer Hyperlites

Here's my 1993 ish purchase. A KHS Montana Comp FZ. Great bike and mostly original parts. Seat, post and rear rim are replacements. The rest is stock. Group set is Shimano Deore XT and works like new. Still in use daily. Great bike. IMG20240331110459.jpg
