Shimano V-Brake Tune Up Kits

Hello All;
I need some advice regarding my 98 XT V brakes particularly the front and squealing.
For some time I have been unable to avoid squealing at some time of a day and have recently changed pads with new std Shimano XT blacks due to wear.
However, with, without and many other incarnations of "toe in" there is considerable squeal which leads to the question of whether these Tune Up Kits which comprise of some washers are are designed to stop this squeal. Ive ruffed the pads and rims up to no difference.
While there are kits available at CRC there is no narrative I can find about how effective they are or whether they are designed to prevent squealing.
Any view welcome?

Used them and they do take the play out of the pivots, do your brake cartridges wobble form side to side? if so the tune up kit is what you need. Quite easy to fit once you have got the hang of it. If you try to fit a shim too fat the pivot will bind up once you have tightened it all up - try the next size down - it's better to have a bit of play in the pivot.

a simple elastic band also does the trick but cant remeber how to fit it .

Ahh tantalising advice there :idea:

I will get some in and have a play at reducing play.
(If you get it; play - squeal.. yet. Anyone..)

Thanks for the comments
