Shimano Deore XT M750 Square Taper Chainset Question.

Does anyone know if a Shimano Deore XT M750 Square Taper Chainset with original rings is compatible with a 7 speed chain? I am unsure if the rings are 9 or 8 speed, I know 8 speed rings would be ok, but if they are 9?.

Looks like the small ring has a M9 N-22 stamped on it.

Thanks, yea I think its 9 speed. I read that the internal diameter of the 6/7/8 chain is almost the same as a 9 speed, though the outside diameter of the 9 is less to accommodate the rear cassette (extra) teeth/cog, also the front chainring teeth size on the 8/9 are the same. Not sure if I want to spend the money on a near mint Shimano Deore XT M750 crankset though, they alone are going for stupid money compared to a full bike. Thanks for the quick reply foz.
