Hey all,

Looking for some help if anyone can help,

I just purchased a 1995 Diamond back Ascent EX and I believe its a 26.4mm Seat post? I know this sound like a stupid question but can i squeeze anything bigger? I am looking for a Thomson seat post but i am struggling to find one that will fit, (nearest i can find is 27.2)

Also, I am going to be running a Shimano Zee Derailer with 10 speed (11-34) will i face many issues with this? and could i potentially go to a (11-36)?

Quiet new into building Old mountain bikes as i have mainly been riding track bikes for 12 years so knowledge isnt great.

Thanks for all help!

The seatpost will have to be a 26.4 (or whatever your frame is). you *may be able to go up by 0.2 of a mm or so, but typically there's no room for changing the size.

in theory, you can run any speed rear end, as derailleur hangers haven't changed, and I've run a 11-46 10 speed cassette on a 'normal' retro 135mm QR rear end.

Re:

There are 2 types of Zee rear mech. One for DH (marked DH on the top link), and one for normal use. The DH version has a max sprocket size of 27t. The normal version can go to 36t. It can cope with up to 40t from what i have read but never tried it. The 36t version paired with a 32t chainring will get you up most things.
