Rubbish parts that command a premium

The point about the Raleigh lugged Ti / cromo / alu frames is an interesting one. They weighed around the same as a decent steel frame from the far east, yet cost more. I quite like the lugged look of the Ti ones, though: Fewer of those ghastly welds that mass produced steel frames often had n that era.

These bonded frames do have some advantages of full Ti ones: they don't crack nearly as often as full Ti frames.

Let me also add to the list, the Hope hubs with the Ti bodies.

Re: Re:

I remember one of their team riders have a frame with Mag 21's front and rear. Jake Watson I think?

I do find it funny that the Marin frames were more reliable, but less desirable. The cracking Manitous are more popular and sell for more money.

I can't remember who was in the piccy and Jake is sadly passed away so I can't even ask him!

Maybe my suggestions were not necessarily rubbish, just overpriced. Apart from XTR Stis, now they're rubbish....

Having said that, it doesn't really matter if the stuff is rubbish, if people want it, for whatever reason, e.g. craftsman made, rare, etc.... it will be valuable. Where I usually ride, anything over 5 years old is considered rubbish so by that definition all my bikes are rubbish!

Re:

If you'd just added Klein's to the list then the angry mob would be a gathering

I think someone mentioned those on page 1!

Hope Ti hubs.

Yes, mine went 'ping' both ends. If I hadnt been so lazy, I could have got them replaced back in 2011 but there you go. I wouldnt pay very much for them now.

Re:

Sachs mid 90's mechs look lovely but cack compared to shimy and suntour.

Also since I own a set - Goldtec Ti rear cassette lovely eye candy but functionally pretty naff.
