RS Judy DH 95 elastomer stacks/RS 97 Judy XC LT elastomer

Dirt Disciple
Hi all,

Those pesky elastomers and their perishing capabilities! I recently acquired two pairs of forks to put on a 96 GT LTS DH rebuild.

Fork 1: '95 Rock Shox Judy DH. Original elastomers had perished. Bought a replacement set from suspension fork parts.net but they only allow for not much more than an inch travel. Looking for a replacement set of the original elastomers - bits and pieces to forge together and make new stacks would do

Fork 2: '97 Rock Shox Judy XC Long Travel. One side ok but other elastomer attached to coil has part perished about an inch. Adjuster knob has also sheared on one side. May also have a dodgy damper cartridge. Travel is good but would rather have a complete working package. Looking for replacement elastomer, adjuster knob and damper cartridge

Stanchion boots would also be useful for both forks :)

If spring conversion is viable for these forks, what are the best options or vendors?

Thanks for looking and fingers crossed, the RB community can help.

I might have just what you are after.
I think I have the long red elastomer in the 2nd / 3rd photos, no idea how squidgy they are.
as for the other bits, don't know. Certainly don't have any good damper carts.
Let me dig in the shed tonight and see what I can find.

Got a few Judy spares listed for sale here:

I've also got some elastomers as well not listed as I was going to keep them but would sell if interested. Might be up for swapping with the ones you bought as I can use them for other things.

Yes drop in a spring for the new elastomer stack you have, direct replacement.

The other you can do the same or just do the lower spring.

Most old elastomers, even NOS are way past their best.

Are you too light for the elastomers you bought (what riding weight are you ?)

Fluffy Chicken: I wouldn't say I'm too light. 150-160lbs. The suspensionforksparts.net stack compresses and then stops due to the 'solid' nature of the tubing used. The original stacks compressed inwards as well as down due to the 'spongy' material used. This allows the fork to properly compress rather than just lock out once the compression diameter hits the inside of the stanchions. I assume that's what is happening anyway. I hope that seems clear.

It's clear, they used an MCU (foam elastomer) an not the standard solid elastomers. But I would have thought they would have narrowed them to give soom room to expand inside and outside, guess not.
Assuming nothing else is locking it out.

What's the full stack lenth of the elastomer stack setup?

As a side that typeii setup in the 97 fork as it's 80mm (LT) it should have a 51mm spring and a 115mm MCU, if they are more than 5mm shorter than that then they are worn out.

I have replacement cartridges for 63mm + 80mm, Type I,II, + III spring kits, and some elastomers. IIRC I have the elastomers from my 1st DH that were replaced w. MS springs right away.

I have some replacement fork caps. I'd have to dig through the box to see if they're the right ones.
