Rim decal orientation - drive side symmetry?

Just found out the decal should be read from the drive side and the valve should point towards the hub logo...

You learn something new everyday. NOW it's bugging me one of my wheels built has the decal facing the wrong way. I've seen quite a few not following this from the likes of Dave Hinde built wheels. Can't be a strict rule or is it?

It does look better being symmetrical so heads up those like me who didn't know.
 
The Americans say that, so you can read it when the bike is by the side of the road. We ride on the other side so it should be readable from the left.

Personally I couldn't care less. If you are the sort who obsesses about whether the blob of grease on the mech spring should be yellow or green on M650, then I guess it's an issue. :LOL:
 
I never look at my bike from the drive side, so mine are correct when looking from the non drive side, But as long as they are both the same I am happy. Bugs me that on my crossmaxs the rims are different ways around from the factory grrrrrrr. Hubs also must read correctly when viewed from the back of the bike.
 
Yes I think that's the "preferred" way, so the rim decals can be read from the drive side.
And hub decals can be read from the rear.
It makes absolutely no difference to how the wheels work though. If you're that bothered then peel the decal off and stick it back on the right way round ;)

Also what to do with the excess brake cable? Leave it hanging in the breeze? Or tuck it behind the brake arm?
And what's the optimal length of cable to be left exiting from cable clamp bolt.??
 
I always have my front hub logo facing forward, so i can read it from front of bike.

As for rim logos, as long as they are both the same way, though on modern wheels i tend to remove the decals as they are usually a bit naf and sometimes way to many.
 
My 100% original condition Peugeot Team Line 2000 from 1993 has rim decals to be read from the non-drive side.
I have a Shimano M737 on Mavic M231 factory-built rear wheel from 1994 where it's the same.
I've thus built all my bikes following this pattern.
Regarding hub decals orientation, most are indeed read when viewing the bike from the back (or riding), but early Syncros disc hubs are the opposite :roll::

When I build up my own my prefered check list is;
1. Rim decal bottom & read from the drive side
2. Tyre logo top
3. Valve top
4. Hub text read from the the bike

Although if I have a perfectly fine set that I didnt build and they don't quite fit my rules I have absolutly no problem with them...lifes too short.

Life is too short i agree, though i do have to have the tyre logo's in the same place as the rim decals, not opposite :)

Life is too short i agree, though i do have to have the tyre logo's in the same place as the rim decals, not opposite :)
