What exactly is retro ?

Is it a fixed point in time, or is it a moving point in time ?

How many years have to have passed for something to be referred to as retro ?

And at what point does that retro change to vintage and then antique ?

Well on here retro officially means anything 1997 or earlier.

But as a GT nut I take 2001 and earlier (before the bankruptcy) as the golden age to be retro GT. I think others have similar cut offs for other brands general before a takeover and a move down market.

On the 1 Jan 1998 the TV News had a special report announcing the bright new future, and that everything else was now retro.

Retro still means what it has always meant.

However it means something different on this site.

There is an point behind which all bikes are considered retro. 97.

So your vintage/antique/classic/old/ancient blah blah blah bikes are all retro if they are older than that cut off point.

Simple enough.

Assuming a section will pop up eventually named Modern Retro or something similar, to cover 98-2000 or so.

Its what ever you want it to be but dont expect your retro to be someone elses. We are all different ages so our rose tinteds can only focus on certain eras.

Mine is 1993 backwards, roughly the cut-off for the original 110BCD chainset.

For uniformity's sake, 1997 was long ago agreed as the general point that retro became Retro.
