Retro Kona names resurrected

But the order changeth, see below. Kula stays with scandium, so the Kilauea is the 'top' frame now. Always was, in some people's minds.

I'm sure they're very good, but they do nothing for me. Much prefer the likes of this, even in its current scabby form

There is a thread about this in General Chat which you may not have seen Anthony... in which I said, I don't like 'em!

Plastic Kilauea

If carbon fibre was just 'plastic', Felipe Massa would be dead, so I doubt whether he would agree with you!

But my point wasn't about the merits of carbon fibre, it was about the names - the Kilauea is now the top hard tail model in the Kona range, and the designated cross country race bike. The Explosif is the all-rounder bike. Exact reversal of their earlier roles.

Indeed, had noticed that. Somebody in the other thread was bemoaning the Explosif being turned into a sliding dropout beefcake thingy, and I agree.

Plastic comment was tongue in cheek, but I stand by it...always liked the fact that the Kil was never remade into alu/scan versions like the Caldera, Explosif (at one point), Hei Hei and so on. Kilauea meant (good) steel. Now it doesn't, necessarily.

Also, another year, another fugly set of graphics for Kona. What have they been smoking? :?

That was me.

I loved the old explosif, a manufacturers bike you'd happily buy the frame and do as a custom. Rereleased as a bit of tat like you can buy anywhere...
