Reproduction Rims?

Been thinking about this for a while as rims are getting harder and more expensive to find. So are there any modern rim brake rims that look like old school rims? Perhaps if such rims exist, we could get some copies of the old school rim stickers they look like made and replace the modern stickers. Was thinking of Mavic 231's inparticular.

Good idea Mark. Especially seeing that rims like the old Mavic 217 and X517 are pretty much identical to modern XM317 and XC717's for example.

I'm sure there's a rim-job in it somewhere for someone.

I slated a lot of the tacky "cash-in" repro stuff on another thread, but if somebody did retro-looking rims with a "sunrise" anodized finish, like the old Mavics, my Hei Hei would be very happy.

Or some like the old Arayas (7X etc.), with the raised dimples around the spoke-holes, for my klunker... Mmmmm!! Araya did make them in 26-inch, but they were never as common as the BMX versions.

Even modern rims in silver would be nicer than the mandatory black stuff they do now.
Silver rims and a polished groupset goes with any color frame. But that takes more time/ money to finish to a high standard. Even Campagnolo has gone with fugly black/ carbon now

A quick look through CRC and I found these that could pass for retro:

Mavic XM317 £21

DMR Dee Vee £19

Mavic XC 717 from £33

Mavic XM 117 £16

Would then be looking to get some repro decals done, like these:

The DMR Dee Vee could easily pass as a Mavic 220, quite nice actually too. The others have that ridge which i'm not fond of tbh.

Reproduction rim stickers...hmmm. A weird idea, but there may be something to it. I'd only like to seed that idea off the ground if it meant remaking the style of the 231 stickers, but still representing the rim for what it is, model number wise. Why not make a slimmer 231 sticker with 717 as the model number? Tadah! Retro without the 'fraud'!

I like the idea...

I also like that idea. An excellent compromise.
