Remove Mavic bottom bracket?

Do you need specific tool/s to remove a Mavic BB?

I don't have any that fit.

Cheers

Wayne.

Re:

Looks like a Hope or Royce tool will fit, or a pin spanner.

I have tools you could borrow, if you wanted.

Re:

A Royce tool worked perfectly on a road version of the Mavic bottom bracket (both the notched lock rings and the pin hole spacing), but the MTB version has deeper bevelled lock-rings and my Royce tool would therefore not stretch over and engage in the notches deeply enough. In the end I took it to a local shop, staffed by a great forum member on here) and he helped - but I don't know which tool was used.

Thanks for the offer.

Now I know what I need I'll have a look around see how much they are to buy.

Just one more thing...When removing the do you remove the outer ring then the bit with the pin holes.

Thanks again Wayne.

You remove the outer ring on one side then the whole lot slides out from the other side. Its a threadless bottom bracket. Pin spanner is the tool to buy or you could try and turn the outer ring by wedging a bit of hard wood in one of the notches and hitting it with a mallet.

Re:

 I have this frane now and attempted to remove the bottom bracket this evening, it wasn't budging so I took to Google and this thread pops up!

So both lockring are "normal" ie counter-clockwise to loosen them? Looks like thst from the video above.
It's currently soaking in some penetrating oil and will be taken to work tomorrow so I can exact my revenge on it

Can you get new bearings for these bottom brackets?

Lovely pin spanners in the above vid  :xmas-wink:

If you remove other types of old style bb's, these two tools pictured on Var: https://www.vartools.com/en/adjustable- ... r-p888.php look pretty nice, allowing good leverage and adjustement. I have one of those classic style lockring removal tools but they don't always get into the notches deeply enough or some lock rings are bigger/smaller. I believe Hozan make something similar.
