This is all hypothetical at the moment...as I have absolutely zero cash but...you know the score, you wanted one, so you got one, then you changed your mind and sold it, now you want one again....

Love my fully rigid Kona, but now have the opportunity to do some regular stuff off road that is knarlier than what I'm used around here on the rigid.

What's best to look for, I do like the look of coil rear shock rather than air, and I know there's a fair few design features to take into consideration...if it happened to be a Kona based recommendation I'd be even happier.... :p

Id go for a later 90's marin FRS, i have a 97 rift zone and its just awesome, rides brilliantly and climbs surprisingly well for a bouncy bike, we now have four others in our group riding them now and soon to be five!

Something just like this one for example..

Re:

Early Heckler, now there's a thought, hadn't considered one of those and I do like the look of them...

Always did like the looks of the Marin's and Kona Sex, finding one in my size though seems to be tricky (i.e., very small!) Though I suppose the 'stand over height' of the Marin's is better because of the design.

Funny you should say that as i have a 15.5" mount vision im currently building up for a mate so they do exist lol!

How do Marin measure frame size Spud, is it centre to top, or centre to centre...?

Ive just checked with a tape measure against my 17.5" rift zone and it seems to be CtoC, centre to top makes it a 19" its possibly a little on the small size for me but it feels so right to ride it (im a tall chap you see lol)

Re:

Thought about something a bit different? How about a bianchi super ibex?

Just so happens I have one in a small frame for sale ;-)

Shameless, I know!
