Rechromed frame issues

As mentioned in a recent post, I had my frame chromed recently and am having a couple of issues with excess chrome material in various places on the frame.

The latest issue is that the chrome has built up excessively at the top of the head tube creating 1) a non-flat circumference against which to install the headset 2) a narrowed aperture in which to install the headset.

The aperture can be filed to remove the 'lip' of chrome but the building up on top end of the tube is more substantial and filing would ruin it I'd say.

Should I the it to my LBS for facing?

Whats the best way to 'seal' the bare steel exposed by these processes?

Thanks again

Rob

Facing tools don't remove chrome very well so you have to remove most of the chrome with a fine sharp file or abrasive wheel, the same is for the chrome on the inside of the head, tube.

Then it's refaced and resurfaced using normal tools for steel..........LBS job really or send to a Mercian / Ellis Brigs / Argos / Bob Jackson........etc.

The bare steel is covered by the headset and grease which forms a hermetic seal.

Same for any chrome that's crept onto the fork race area.
