Rebirth of my 1997 Rocky Mountain Element

Dirt Disciple
This is the story of my lovely Rocky Mountain Element.

I bought it August 1997 in Gwermany and it was assembled to my specs. Originally it was built with Shimano XT parts and a Judy SL LT. Over the years it was upgraded with new parts and it was powder coated which was a bad decision from my current point of view.
This is how I drove it for a long time and how it spent the last few years in the garage:

The last few years I haven’t used it anymore but I kept it because “I love the ride”.
Almost 1 ½ years back I decided to reactivate the Element and bring it back to the original look. I started with collecting parts and was happy to find all what I was looking for in really good shape.
The frame was painted by Gerrit at CycleArt-Berlin and he did an incredible job!
The stickers are from Gil and are a perfect fit. What would we do without our experts…
The Element is almost finished right now. Just needs some fine tuning, especially for the brakes which start rubbing when I sit on the bike. I think the Crossmax wheels are a little weak for my current weight.

I already tried another crossmax wheelset (the ones from the pirst pic in this thread) and this one works fine. No rubbing.

I know, "this thread is useless without pics" so ....... here they are:
I love the paitjob ......

Re:

That looks awesome, quite a transformation!

What brake levers are those? They operate the Magura brakes?

Those are Altek BL 30 hydraulic brake levers.
I still have the original Magura 10. anniversary brake levers but I wanted to have something more elegant.

Re:

What a great job.... you have convinced me to build my 96 Element Race back up.
