Rear Disc Brake Adaptor - Gary Fisher Paragon 1999

Retro Newbie
hi, new to this forum, i have a 1999 Ally Gary Fisher Paragon of which i have recently had powder coated and am upgrading with new wheels and discs at Xmas. My left side chain stay has 2 calliper locating holes which i thought i would be able to use with my new calliper plus with the aid of an A2Z parallel adpator. unfortunately this adaptor doesn't fit my frame and i am reluctant to weld locating lugs onto my newly coated frame. I am currently fabricating a flate plate adaptor that will sit on the drop out and will be secured on these 2 lugs and via the QR and a small M5 threaded hole possibly designed to hold paniers. ( A bit like the DM-UNI)
Does anyone know if the stress and strain of using a bracket will affect my frame or does anyone have any other ideas or experience with any other brackets on the market.

Thanks Dave

torontocycles.com sells an adaptor that will work on your frame.

i have the proper hayes brakes inc the rear 22mm caliper doing nothing ;)

I had the same issue with my Trek 8500 frame from 2001. I had the V-Brake version (but the same frame was used for the disc version), and then about 3 years ago decided to fit disc brakes.

Trek told me that A2Z used to supply the brackets to convert to chainstay IS mount. When I spoke to the UK distributor for A2Z parts, they said only A2Z USA could supply these. I then luckily found someone selling them on US eBay.

Here's a photo of my Trek running an XT Post Mount caliper, with PM to IS convertor bracket:

I fitted one of the parrallel adaptors to my gary fisher tarpon, it worked really well, I was told they stopped supporting this format. surely it is only as simple as drilling the dropout to fit an adaptor, though I quess drilling it once the frame material, dropout thickness and dimensions have been checked against a compatible dropout.

Why would anyone need to drill their dropout ? I thought the bike in question already had chainstay bolt holes to take an adaptor ?

yep see what you mean, this must have been a later way of doing the job,
the Gary Fisher I had, had bolt holes for a disc adaptor on the dropouts, it improvised the mudguard eyelet and added an extra one to take a disc bracket. this one is on the chain stays, looks far more substantial too.
