Rat Klein pinnacle build - Selfmade parts content!

There is a pic of the drill, in a collet chuck, but i would like to see how it is powered. Assuming it is some kind of powered head mounted on the cross slide, or something.
That is was I was trying to explain in post #30.
in the last picture there, you can see my power drill attached to the axle that has the chuck (and the drillbit) on the other end. For drilling I would press the button on the power drill and at the same time rotate the cross slide handle to move the drill into the work piece.

I cannot wait for a quiet half an hour later this weekend, with a cup of tea or beer in hand, to go through this thread!

I can already tell I won't be disappointed, just scrolling through quickly.

(Oh, and that drop bar build from the German forums... link please! That thing is niiiiiice!)

What a brilliant project you have on the go here.

Thanks for giving us all what we want/need/crave with this thread!

Right, more when I've got stuck-in properly...

PS. Have you have a bunch of PM's yet requesting spec work?! I imagine so.

About the drop bar build. I don't think the guy ever did a build thread. But he has a album full of photos with that bike in it. Dating back as far as 2010. You can get there by clicking on the picture I posted. (The same ist true for my own pictures. But I wouldn't recomend, because spoiler alert...)

Great thread Thias 👍
Love the theme

My bad. I got mixed up with multiple threads open and now realise i hadn't read all pages of your thread. Thank you for explaining and great work.

Yep, I was right.

This thread is epic!

And I remember the old Decelerator thread of yours. Which I loved when I rediscovered it last year searching for all things Marinovative on here.

And I'm pleased to now better understand what set you off down that particular path.

Tthis bike will certainly be a worthy home for them (although something tells me you've further developed them and a new, improved set will end up on the Klein?)

Hopefully you'll have production quantities of the brakes and QR skewers ready before too long, so we can all order and make your rich man! ; )

Well, it's a bit sad, but I don't think I would be able to sell any of this. Though I would love to. There are many problems, that I would have to solve first.
First I would have to get in contact with Marinovative (or AC in case of the quick release) and ask them for permission. If they demand any kind of money, thats the end.
Second: I am a capitalist. So I will start comparing makeing and selling these parts with other stuff that acually makes me money. Like my actual work. Let's say I can charge 50€ plus shipping for that tiny quick release. It has 10 Euro in materials and tool wear. It takes me at least 3 hours to make one. If I was really pushing and optimizing, I would maybe be able to crank out 10 in a day. Anything else would require me investing in some kind of CNC setup. And that in turn would destroy the - how should I put it? - spirit? It would be just another cnc bike part. And I surely would't be able to get rich quick like that, would I 😂
Then of course, I think professionalizing like that would also take out the fun on my part in an instant.

What I might consider though is this. I am a bike hoarder. I really like all kinds of old bike parts. So I think I would love to swap self made stuff for other parts. I would make cool stuff to get other cool stuff. No money involved. It's still a hobby. I think I would like that.

Sorry for that lengthy explanation. I had a few PMs about this, so I was feeling the need to - well - explain. 😅

Another Idea of mine was to start a youtube about all that. I've been experimenting on that lately. But that is really a lot of work. I now have a hell of a lot of more respect for all those youtubers out there after trying it myself. But if I would be making some money with YT, I would be able to basically give away the parts that were made while filming.

Now I'm tossing ideas around. Again, sorry for all the rumbling...

I like that.

And I like that you took the time to write a considered response.

Count me in for swapsies!

Just have to think of something I might have worth swapping!

Well, BTT.

While I was repairing the hope hub, a few more hubs were kindly donated to me.

One of them was this ringle front hub. I bought a short piece of titanium tube to basically make a beefy version of the hope hub (two separate flanges glued to a titanium tube) using the bearings and axle out of the ringle.

While I'm sure, this hub would technically work, the design sure is debatable.
... and the weight might be beefy, too.o_O

Now that I think about it, I never put it on a scale.
