I was given this beast by an old fella clearing out his garage. I've been restoring it for my wife to use. With new brakes, tyres, cables and chain it goes surprisingly well, despite the middle chainring having several broken teeth.
I'm wondering whether people on here think it would be viable to replace the chainrings, which are a single riveted unit? Alternatively, could I replace the current arrangement with a modern BB, cranks and narrow-wide chainring (I have a 34T lying around) for a 1x5 setup, which I think would be fine for the kind of riding the bike is going to be used for?
Also, I think I've narrowed the date of the bike down to 1989 or 1990 (the derailleurs were manufactured in 1989, and the Massif doesn't appear in the 1991 or 1992 Raleigh catalogues on Retrobike). Does anyone know which is the right date?
Thanks for looking!
