Raleigh Gran Sport Actually Built see P.23

Re: Raleigh Gran Sport change of direction.

Would a good car paint shop be able to match the colour?

Re: Raleigh Gran Sport change of direction.

You could try HMG paints, they will mix to pretty much any reference, RAL, Panetone, Bristish Standard, CYMK percentages, you name it.
Have the paint in a 1Litre can or in an aerosol.

Re: Raleigh Gran Sport change of direction.

Is it worth posting the question on the forum as plenty of real Raleigh experts out,i work with 2k paints, the software in some scanners gives a paint code only to certain paint systems {RAL},whilst some match exactly and spit out a unique formula, due to era of Gran Sport it would either be a unique Raleigh colour or a car shade {Ford champagne Supernova etc}or a B.S, British companies held out against RAL for a v long time, also some mettalics dry matt and need to be laquered over

I shall do that now. Good idea.

Re: Raleigh Gran Sport change of direction.

Maybe it’s because of the industry I work in, but I've always considered both paint & chrome as consumables, with their primary purpose being to prevent steel from rusting.
The frame maker stamps the bottom bracket, not the painter… just saying ;)

Re: Raleigh Gran Sport change of direction.

Sometimes I love modern life. We talked on here yesterday afternoon about removing a freewheel. I identified the (Park) tool required, ordered it and it arrived this morning. Nipped out to shed. Freewheel put up a little resistance but is off. Used an old skewer to support the tool.

Now i can prepare the wheels as best I can. The spokes are dull/grey beyond polishing (wire wool and gt85) but are sound so will stay. The BB is fine so I won't touch it. Like i said, I reckon this was serviced before being stored so once the film of grime has been removed everything should polish up fairly well. While it's stripped i shall take the frame and see if I can get a colour match.

I'm supposed to be working at home today but the boss is out and the shed is calling.....................
