Raleigh Banana 531c

Re:

Unlike its cheapo 18-23 high-tensile cousin, the proper team replica never actually carried any Banana branding - only the paint job was the same as the pro team's bikes. The only reason I can think of is to circumvent any arcane BCF rules on sporting unsanctioned advertising/sponsorship in amateur racing - after all the bike was easily good enough for use in actual competition and doubtless at least some of its buyers did so.

Re:

Whilst the Banana decals weren't applied to the frame in the factory, they were supplied with the bike in the pack, so you could apply them if you wanted to. And you are right, I bought mine to race on and the rules were strict regarding team logos, I can't remember if I was a rebel or not, probably not.

Also the brochure picture show's the bike with the stickers on.

All that aside, my point is that it's an eBay listing and it surprises me there's no mention of Banana as a keyword for a Banana replica, to increase your chance of finding someone that's looking for one. :)

Fair point, sorry for going off at a slight tangent. And the seller seems knowledgable enough about bikes to know he's selling a decent machine, so the absence of "Banana" as a search term is a bit odd. :?

The listing is correct in so much that this bike was in the brochure as a Team Competition.

These do seem to be somewhat 'rare' and most I have seen don't have the 'sponsor' decals applied, but it is nice that they are included with this one.

However, at £675 I think the seller may be a little ambitious....

Re:

Yeah definitely unusual in this original condition, and pretty amazing if those decals are the originals that came with the bike; I'm pretty sure I would have lost them by now! I guess it's only worth what someone will pay for it, though I agree £675 seems a little steep, it does look very smart.

Re:

Kinda wish I was still in the market for one, it is in very very nice original condition. £550 is a bit more reasonable I think, so hopefully the right buyer will find it, buy it and bring it here with some nice piccies. :)
